In 1942, Marcel Bich and his partner, Édouard Buffard, set up a business creating writing instrument parts in a factory in the Paris suburb of Clichy, where they began production of pen holders and pencil cases.
Édouard Bouffard (August 30, 1858 – December 12, 1903) was a lawyer and political figure in Quebec. He represented Montmorency in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1896 to 1900 as a Conservative .
He bought a factory in Clichy, a suburb north of Paris, and with business partner Edouard Buffard founded Société PPA (later Société Bic) in 1945. "PPA" stood for Porte-plume, Porte-mines et Accessoires ; pens, mechanical pencils and accessories.
In 1944, at the tender young age of 30, Marcel Bich bought a factory in Clichy, France, and set up business with his partner, Édouard Buffard, making parts for writing instruments. Originally, Bich was very skeptical of ballpoint pens, as the mechanic at the time was often leaky, clunky and incredibly expensive.
En 1953, Marcel Bich et Édouard Buffard créent une société qui prend le nom BIC 5, 6, plus facile à identifier et prononçable dans toutes les langues. Un an plus tard, BIC se développe en Italie 6. C'est en 1956 que l'entreprise lance le « stylo à pointe rétractable M10 », et s'implante au Brésil .
Interesting facts: In late 1944 Marcel Bich started working with Edouard Buffard (1908-1996), manufacturing parts for fountain pens in a factory in Clichy, just outside of Paris (France). During this period, Marcel Bich realized the enormous potential for the ballpoint pen.
