The 10th Academy Awards were held on March 10, 1938 to honor films released in 1937, at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California and hosted by Bob Burns. Originally scheduled for March 3, 1938, the ceremony was postponed due to the Los Angeles flood of 1938.
The Academy Award for Best Dance Direction was presented from 1935 to 1937, after which it was discontinued due to pressure from the directors' branch. It is the only category for which a Marx Brothers film received an Oscar nomination, for the dance number All God's Chillun Got Rhythm in A Day at the Races (1937).
It was also the final year for the Best Dance Direction and Best Assistant Director categories, which were won by Hermes Pan (A Damsel in Distress’s “Fun House” number) and In Old Chicago’s Robert Webb respectively.
