Marc Ribot (/ ˈ r iː b oʊ /; born May 21, 1954) is an American guitarist and composer. His work has touched on many styles, including no wave , free jazz , rock, and Cuban music . Ribot is also known for collaborating with other musicians, most notably Tom Waits , Elvis Costello , Vinicio Capossela and John Zorn .

In 1978, Ribot crossed the river to New York City, where he served as sideman for such musicians as jazz organist Jack McDuff and legendary soul shouter Wilson Pickett. Ribot began his five-year stint as a member of the Lounge Lizards (John Lurie's innovative and influential Downtown jazz ensemble) in 1984.
