S. D. Burman - Wikipedia. Sachin Dev Burman (1 October 1906 – 31 October 1975) was an Indian music director and singer. A member of the Tripura royal family, [1] [2] he started his career with Bengali films in 1937. He later began composing for Hindi movies and became one of the most successful and influential Indian film music composers.

Sachin Dev Burman started his career in the early part of this century around 1926/27 as a radio artist in Calcutta. He had an extremely productive and hugely successful innings, both in Bombay and Calcutta, that ended with his death in 1975.
Sachin Dev Burman was a titan amongst composers and singers of songs for Indian films and outside of them. Born on October 01 1906 in Comilla, about 100 kilometers from Dhaka Bangladesh, Sachin Dev Burman was a scion of the princely family of Tripura, now a state of India.
He forged a style of singing that remains inimitable and is a school of his own. His vocals were ingrained in Indian music — essentially East Bengal folk and Hindustani classical. He sang these for 41 years, creating ‘new music’ all along, to the pleasure of his generation, before and after.
