Oct 31, 2023 · Seibu Lions utility player Shuta Tonosaki was named the MVP of the first APBC. Japan will have manager Hirokazu Ibata at the helm for the APBC. He replaced Akio Ishii, who was the manager for the national team during the 19th Asian Games at the beginning of October in Hangzhou, China.
Shuta Tonosaki has been an All-Star in Nippon Pro Baseball and has played for the Japanese national team. Tonosaki's family runs an apple farm and is the source of his nickname "Apple Punch". He won a Player of the Year award in college. The Seibu Lions took him in the 3rd round of the 2014 NPB draft.
