Jun 5, 2008 · Verizon Wireless announced a cash merger with Alltel Corporation in June 2008, expanding its network coverage, spectrum and customer base. The transaction was completed by the end of the year, subject to regulatory approvals, and created an enhanced platform for reliable wireless services.

Jan 9, 2009 · Verizon Wireless paid $5.9 billion for the equity of Alltel and divested some markets to comply with regulatory approval. The acquisition expanded Verizon Wireless’ network coverage to 290 million people and increased its customers by 12.9 million.
