The hitbox is meant to compensate for lag and movement. When a character is moving, his hitbox is usually farther from the model.

Apr 19, 2022 · Hitbox Service v2 is a complete rewrite of Hitbox Service. Hitbox Serivce v2 introduces new features such as updating hitboxes, more events, and more. Hitbox Service allows you to create accurate hitboxes with minimal scripting. It is very beginner friendly and allows for customization.
Came across this video and thought it's an excellent tool to understand how to set up (and more importantly, balance!) hitboxes. It covers startup, active, and cooldown frames as well as "cancels", "hit stun", and "block stun".
