Dimiter Gotscheff (Bulgarian: Димитър Гочев; 26 April 1943 in Parvomai, Bulgaria – 20 October 2013 in Berlin) was a Bulgarian-born German theater director. His work is often associated with dramatist and director Heiner Müller .
Dimiter Gotscheff ( bulgarisch Димитър Гочев Dimitar Gotschew; * 26. April 1943 in Borissowgrad, Bulgarien; † 20. Oktober 2013 in Berlin) [1] war ein bulgarischer Theaterregisseur, der hauptsächlich in Deutschland wirkte.
Dimiter Gotscheff Born on the 26th of April in 1943 in Parvomay, Bulgaria. In 1962, he went to live with his father in the GDR and took up veterinary science and theatre studies at Humboldt University Berlin.
Seine erste Inszenierung war Heiner Müllers Die Weiberkomödie in Nordhausen. 1979 verließ Gotscheff im Zusammenhang mit der Ausbürgerung von Wolf Biermann die DDR und kehrte nach Bulgarien zurück. Seit Mitte der 1980er Jahre arbeitete er an vielen deutschsprachigen Bühnen von Wien bis Hamburg.
Companions such as the actor Ulrich Mühe or the director Dimiter Gotscheff, who performed Müller’s work after his death, are themselves now no longer among the living. Current theatre productions of his plays testify in many ways to the break with the reality from which Müller’s work originates.
A focal point of this year’s The- atertreffen was the work of Dimiter Gotscheff, who died in October 2013. He came from Bulgaria to Germany to study veterinary medi-cine, whereupon he encountered the work of Heiner Müller and changed his career path.
