Admissions. The Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program is committed to reviewing applications holistically, with an emphasis on the applicants' commitment to physician-scientist training as evidenced by letters of recommendation, research experiences, GPA, and other academic and community accomplishments.
The Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program is training physician-scientists who will become the next generation of leaders in biomedical research. Weill Cornell Medicine, The Rockefeller University, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center combine to form one of the few inter-institutional collaborations dedicated to joint MD and PhD training.
The Tri-Institutional MD–PhD Program is an academic program of study based in New York City that was formed by combining earlier MD–PhD programs that had their inceptions in 1972.
The M.D.-Ph.D. Program allows outstanding applicants to obtain both the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in preparation for careers as physician scientists. Weill Cornell Medical College, Rockefeller University, and Sloan Kettering Institute comprise a tri-institutional group of world-renowned biomedical research institutions on contiguous campuses.
Today’s Tri-Institutional M.D.-Ph.D. Program, known as “Tri-I,” grew out of three predecessor programs, starting with the Cornell/Rockefeller Program, founded in 1972. The Cornell/Sloan Kettering Program, founded in 1981, and the Cornell/Cornell Program, founded in 1984, soon followed.
