The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ( CASS) is a Chinese state research institute and think tank. It is a ministry-level institution under the State Council of the People's Republic of China. History.
CASS is the premier academic organization and research center of China in philosophy and social sciences, established in 1977. It has 31 research institutes, 45 research centers, and over 4,200 staff members, and conducts international academic exchange with over 200 partners.
CASS was founded in May 1977, replacing the old Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Hu Qiaomu was the first President accredited to CASS, and he was followed by Ma Hong, Hu Sheng, Li Tieying, Chen Kuiyuan, Wang Weiguang, Xie Fuzhan and Shi Taifeng.
