Amelie isn’t like other girls. She watched her goldfish disappear in a municipal swimming pool right before her very eyes, her mother died in Notre Dame Square, and her father dotes on a garden gnome. Amelie has grown up and is a waitress in an ex-equestrian dancer’s Montmartre bar.
At a tiny Parisian café, the adorable yet painfully shy Amélie accidentally discovers a gift for helping others. Soon Amelie is spending her days as a matchmaker, guardian angel, and all-around do-gooder.
Amélie is no ordinary girl. Life deals her curious blows: her goldfish slip into the city fountain, her mother dies on the square in front of Notre-Dame cathedral, and her father transfers all his affection to a garden gnome.
