Sekolah Menengah Teknik Kuala Lumpur merupakan sekolah teknik tertua di Malaysia. Ditubuhkan pada tahun 1926 sebagai "The Federal Malay State Trade School", namanya ditukar kepada "Junior Technical Trade School".
Following the Razak Report 1956 the Junior Trade School was renamed Technical Institute of Kuala Lumpur. Six years later in 1962, the name was replaced with Sekolah Menengah Teknik Kuala Lumpur and is used until now.
