What you say is correct. However according to the Chinese .gov it is not legal to use BTC to pay for goods or services there. That is what I meant by "banned as a currency". It is not banned as a commodity there.
I let a tab opened with fiatleak on it for a couple hours and it seems 10 580 BTC were bought with CNY during the last couple hours, as oppose to 3 811 with USD. I never used Fiatleak before, that's why I ask.
