We connect with young people through targeted outreach, schools, and community groups. The Almeida aims to reach more than 3,000 young people a year, to inspire, challenge and engage them as audience members, participants and theatre makers.
The Almeida Theatre is a 325-seat producing house located on Almeida Street off Upper Street in the London Borough of Islington. The theatre opened in 1980, and produces a diverse range of drama. Successful plays are often transferred to West End theatres.
Nov 9, 2017 · Whereas the Victorian and Edwardian theatres of the West End are recovered relics of a golden age of theatrical architecture, the Almeida is a modernised and imaginative response to another kind of early Victorian 1837 establishment, a lecture hall, for the neighbourhood’s Scientific and Literary Institution.
Built in 1837 as the Islington Literary and Scientific Institute with a dais-stage lecture theatre behind a library and reading/reception rooms. Stucco exterior in a pleasingly under-stated neo-classical style; two storeys in three major bays rising to an entablature with pedimental blocking.
