Butler County is a county in the state of Nebraska and has a population as recorded in the 2010 census of 8,395. The county was created in 1856 and organized in 1868. Its county seat is David City. There are two versions of how Butler County was named.
Like many other counties in eastern Nebraska, Butler County’s fertile soil and strong potential for agriculture drew thousands of homesteaders. By 1890, the population had grown from 27 settlers in 1860 to more than 15,000, due in no small part to the railroad.
