Caserta (Italian pronunciation: ⓘ) is the capital of the province of Caserta in the Campania region of Italy. An important agricultural, commercial, and industrial comune and city, Caserta is located 36 kilometers north of Naples on the edge of the Campanian plain at the foot of the Campanian Subapennine mountain range.

Caserta, from the Lombards to the Bourbons. Although the origin of the city is very ancient, dating back to the fifth century A.C. by the Samnites, the current urban conformation, as well as the main attractions, are due to the Bourbons who, after buying the county from the Acquaviva family, in 1750 begin the construction of the Palace.
The palace (1752–74), with a richly decorated interior including a sumptuous chapel and theatre, stands in an extensive park with famous gardens. On the main railway lines from Naples to Foggia and Rome, Caserta is an agricultural trade centre with food-processing and glassmaking industries.
