Hancock County is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. The 2020 United States Census recorded a population of 79,840. [1] The county seat is Greenfield. [2] Hancock County is included in the Indianapolis - Carmel - Anderson, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area .

Hancock County is adjacent to Indianapolis-Marion County on the east and part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The families of Andrew Evans, John Montgomery, and Montgomery Call settled along Blue River in what is now Hancock County around 1818.
Hancock County was formed in 1828 and named after John Hancock, President of the Continental Congress. The county government is a constitutional body made up of the County Council, Board of Commissioners, Court, and County Officials.
The Hancock County Tourism and Visitor Center is a county agency dedicated to perform the marketing and development functions of destination management. We serve all of Hancock County, Indiana including the communities of Greenfield, Fortville, McCordsville, New Palestine, Cumberland, Wilkinson, Shirley, Maxwell and Charlottesville.
