Pada tahun 1896, sekolah ini menjadi sebuah sekolah awam British. Sekolah ini kemudiannya dihantar oleh Episcopal Methodist Mission dan ia dinamakan Anglo Chinese School pada tahun 1915. Pada tahun 1920, bangunan asal, yang diperbuat daripada kayu, hampir musnah oleh api.
