National Taiwan Normal University ( NTNU; Chinese : 國立臺灣師範大學; pinyin : Guólì Táiwān Shīfàn Dàxué) [5] is a national comprehensive university in Taipei and New Taipei City, Taiwan. The university's predecessor was a normal university. [6] It's the top university specializing in humanities in Taiwan.

The University is comprised of nine colleges across three campuses: Education; Arts, International Studies and Social Science; Liberal Arts; Music; Management; Science; Sports and Recreation; and Technology and Engineering. Altogether, NTNU has 62 departments and 130 degree programs.

國立臺灣師範大學的前身為 日本統治時期 的 臺灣總督府臺北高等學校 ，創立於1922年，為七年制之高等學校（含尋常科四年、高等科三年），是二戰前全日本38所菁英養成高校之一，也是臺灣唯一的一所高校，具備帝國大學預科性質，原則上畢業生可申請免試直升 臺北帝國大學 。 臺北高校創建初時，借用當時尚為中學的 臺北州立臺北第一中學校 （今 建國高級中學 ）校舍，1926年始遷移至古亭町（現址）。 1945年二戰結束後，國民政府接收臺北高校，11月依新學制將其改名為臺灣省立臺北高級中學。 2018年臺師大校務會議決議，追溯校史自「臺灣總督府臺北高等學校」 [12] 。 臺灣省立臺北高級中學（1945年—1949年） 1946年8月起，臺灣省立臺北高級中學校長一職，開始由臺灣省立師範學院院長兼任。
