Greek alphabet letters are used as math and science symbols.
When the letters were adopted by the Greeks, most of the Phoenician names were maintained or modified slightly to fit Greek phonology; thus, ʾaleph, bet, gimel became alpha, beta, gamma. The Greek names of the following letters are more or less straightforward continuations of their Phoenician antecedents.
The Greek letters you are most likely to see for angles (in geometry and trigonometry) are α (alpha), β (beta), γ (gamma), δ (delta), and θ (theta). And of course you'll be using π (pi) all the time. Make sure you know how to spell and pronounce at least these six Greek characters.
