The bolt body has three dimensions that are essential to any bolt size chart: bolt diameter and thread pitch. In standard bolt size charts, the thread pitch is the number of threads in one inch. In the metric system, it’s the distance between two threads in millimeters.
The diameter of a bolt is the Shank diameter, expressed in millimetres for Metric bolts. Because this is approximately the same as the Major or Thread diameter, the thread diameter measurement can be used for fully threaded bolts.
