Although not really common near to the Mutiara resort, once past Lubuk Simpon they proliferate, and there are certain stretches of the Tahan River which still have some magnificent stands.

Dipterocarpus oblongifolius grows as a tree up to 30 metres (100 ft) tall, with a trunk diameter of up to 1.5 metres (4 ft 11 in). Bark is greyish brown. The fruits are ovoid to spindle-shaped, up to 3 cm (1 in) long.
