PETRONAS, a Malaysian oil and gas company, has entered into an agreement to buy 25% stake in the LNG Canada project in British Columbia, Canada. The project involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas plant and export facilities, and PETRONAS plans to develop its North Montney gas resources in Canada.
PETRONAS Canada is a privately held company that produces natural gas and values its relationships with First Nations and stakeholders. It has offices in Calgary and Fort St John, and employs 467 people.
PETRONAS and its subsidiaries signed agreements with SINOPEC to acquire 15 per cent interest in LNG-destined gas reserves and LNG export facility in British Columbia. SINOPEC also agreed to off-take 1.8 MTPA of LNG for 20 years and additional 3 MTPA for 20 years.
