Abu 'Abdullah Malik ibn 'Anas ibn Malik ibn Amr al-Asbahi was born in Madinah in the year 93H (714CE). His ancestral home was in Yemen, but his grandfather settled in Madinah after embracing Islam. Malik became the Imam of Madinah, and one of the most renowned Imams of Islam.
Anas, who was given the nickname “Khadim an-Nabawi [the Servant of the Prophet]”, went to more than 100 towns. He told the Muslims what he saw and heard from the Prophet. He died in Basra in 93 H, when he was more than 100 years old.

He made his camel kneel down in the mosque, tied its foreleg and then said: "Who amongst you is Muhammad?" At that time the Prophet was sitting amongst us (his companions) leaning on his arm.
