Schoonhoven (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈsxoːnˌɦoːvə(n)] ⓘ) is a town and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. Since 2015 it has been a part of the municipality of Krimpenerwaard, before it had been an independent municipality.

Many small towns in the Netherlands in the early 1900s built watertowers and some competition ensued to build the most beautiful one. Schoonhoven chose for the design of architect F. de Jongh: a 50m high tower in neogothic style. Not longer functional since 1982, but thanks to restorations in 1995 and 2008 still looking good.

Schoonhoven is a very nice place fortified town on the Lek in the province of South Holland. The city is known as Silver City because in the 14th century there were already many silversmiths in the fortified city who received orders from the lords of the castle.
