100 Rifles: (Jerry Goldsmith) Attempting to utilize the same basic elements as The Wild Bunch, 1969's 100 Rifles was a predictable failure. Stagnant direction by Tom Gries, worn action concepts in the Western genre, and a cast of stereotypically supporting stars like Jim Brown and Raquel Welch thrown into prominent roles doomed the film.

Film Score Monthly has given it a deluxe presentation, with the entire score in both stereo and mono, plus an extensive set of liner notes, full of color pictures from the movie.

Goldsmith in western mode wasn't that uncommon during the 60's and 70's, and yet 100 Rifles isn't that all known. Perhaps it's got to do with the sound of the recording. Because I'm betting this one would soar a lot better once it would receive a re recording in the vein of Hour of the Gun.
