Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Memorial was officially opened by Dato' Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, on November 10, 1994. The memorial was established to commemorate and honor the services and contributions of Tunku as the "Father of Independence" and also the first Prime Minister of Malaysia (1957 – 1970).
