The exceptional landscape, breath-taking views and unique flora and fauna attract many visitors to Penang Hill each year. On June 29, 2024, the groundbreaking of a new attraction, Penang Hill Cable Car, took place.
The Penang Hill cable car is a proposed gondola lift in George Town, the capital city of the Malaysian state of Penang. The planned 2.73 km (1.70 mi) line will connect the Penang Botanic Gardens to the peak of Penang Hill and is intended to complement the existing Penang Hill Railway.
The cable car alignment will start from the garden station located at the existing Economic Garden (Taman Ekonomi) in Penang Botanic Gardens and end at the summit of Penang Hill, behind the Penang Hill Police Station. The cable car line is 2.73 kilometres long and will feature 50 eight-seater gondolas, with a ride time of less than 10 minutes.
