Edouard-Marcel Sandoz (21 March 1881 – 20 March 1971) was a Swiss animalier sculptor and painter. [1] [2] [3] [4] Biography. Sandoz was a son of the entrepreneur Édouard Constant Sandoz, the co-founder of the chemical and later pharmaceutical company Sandoz, and the brother of the author Maurice-Yves Sandoz. [5] .
Edouard Marcel Sandoz was a Swiss animalier sculptor. His best known works are depictions of foxes, rabbits, and cats, in bronze, ceramic, and stone. Though he also produced watercolors of landscapes and flowers, his primary occupation led him to found the French Society of Animalists in 1933.
Of Swiss birth, Edouard Marcel Sandoz was equally recognised as an animalier sculptor in both France and Switzerland, and indeed internationally. Throughout his life he played a significant role in the community, for which he received important national awards such as the ‘Legion d’Honneur’.
Edouard-Marcel Sandoz was born in Basel (Switzerland) on 21st March 1881. His work as a sculptor of men and animals numbers around 2000 pieces among which 200 porcelain sculptures.
