Popol Vuh (German: [pɔpl̩ vuː]) were a German musical collective founded by keyboardist Florian Fricke in 1969 together with Frank Fiedler (sound design, fine cut), Holger Trülzsch (percussion), and Bettina Fricke (tablas and production).
The legendary Kraut band POPOL VUH was practically a moniker of one musician and composer, Florian Fricke, who passed away in 2001. This posthumous set of two cd's and a dvd contains a selection of solo piano tracks recorded between 1972 - 1989 and an unnarrated travelogue film shot in Tibet by Fricke and Frank Fiedler, plus its soundtrack.
At this stage Popol Vuh shared an interest for electronics and music that is not rooted in the Anglo-American pop- and rock culture, with bands like Tangerine Dream (‘Electronic Meditation’, 1970), Kluster (‘Klopfzeichen’, 1971) and Kraftwerk (‘Kraftwerk’, 1970).
