'The Magnificent Moodies' is the 1965 debut studio album, first released in the UK and the first and only album featuring their R&B lineup of guitarist Denny Laine, bassist Clint Warwick, keyboardist Mike Pinder, flute player–percussionist Ray Thomas, and drummer Graeme Edge.
In July 1965, the band released their first album, The Magnificent Moodies. It was a mix of rhythm and blues covers and Laine/Pinder originals, the latter showing more of a Merseybeat influence. The album also included a cover of the George and Ira Gershwin standard "It Ain't Necessarily So".

It’s a lot for one sitting, but nevertheless it gives us a fascinating window on the Brumbeat origins of the Moodies’ sound, many miles from the mystical lands to which they later travelled.
