David Almond OBE FRSL (born 15 May 1951) is a British author who has written many novels for children and young adults from 1998, each one receiving critical acclaim. He is one of thirty children's writers, and one of three from the UK, to win the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award .

About Me. I grew up in Felling on Tyne, close to the city of Newcastle and not far from beautiful North Sea beaches and Northumberland’s wide open spaces. I had four sisters and a brother. My dad worked in the office of an engineering firm. My mam was a shorthand typist. We lived on a council estate until I was 13.
