Sir John Joseph Caldwell Abbott PC QC KCMG (March 12, 1821 – October 30, 1893) was a Canadian lawyer and politician who served as the third prime minister of Canada from 1891 to 1892. He held office as the leader of the Conservative Party .

John Abbott was a Conservative Party leader and a close ally of John A. Macdonald. He served as Canada's acting prime minister for less than two years after Macdonald's death, but resigned soon after due to health issues.
Abbott became leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister of Canada upon the sudden death of Sir John A. Macdonald in 1891, only three months after the Conservatives had won a general election.
