Wilhelmus Frederikus " Pim " Koopman (11 March 1953 – 23 November 2009 [1]) was a Dutch musician best known as the drummer, percussionist and occasional lead singer of rock band Kayak . Biography. Born in Hilversum, Koopman co-founded Kayak in 1972, along with Ton Scherpenzeel, Johan Slager and Max Werner.

BIO. Pim Koopman werd op 11 maart 1953 in Hilversum geboren. Muziek kreeg hij thuis met de paplepel ingegoten: zijn vader Wim was paukenist/slagwerker bij het Radio Kamerorkest. Als muziekstudent had Wim Koopman de dochter van zijn slagwerkleraar leren kennen, Jopie, die uitstekend piano speelde.

May 8, 2022 · Readers should expect the unexpected in this band, though: in 2009, midway through a tour, co-founder and key songwriter Pim Koopman died suddenly of a heart attack. Of all the blows to strike Kayak, this was perhaps the most grievous.
Kayak’s roots are in the Dutch town of Hilversum, where founding members and neighbourhood friends Ton Scherpenzeel (keyboards, bass guitar) and Pim Koopman (drums, guitars) played together in several bands like Balderdash (1967) and High Tide Formation (1970, pictured above).
