Josep Puig i Cadafalch (Catalan: [ʒuˈzɛp ˈputʃ]; 17 October 1867 in Mataró – 21 December 1956 in Barcelona) was a Catalan Modernista architect who designed many significant buildings in Barcelona, and a politician who had a significant role in the development of Catalan institutions.
Josep Puig i Cadalfach is regarded as the last representative of the architecture of modernism and the first of Noucentisme, the following style era. He was not only an architect, he was also an art historian and politician. The list of his buildings, which he realized in Barcelona and the surrounding area, is long and extensive.

Fue, además, historiador, matemático y político, [ 1 ] ejerciendo como presidente de la Mancomunidad de Cataluña entre 1917 y 1924.
T. Josep Puig i Cadafalch was a multi-faceted architect, art historian, politician and archaeologist. His career influenced the cultural and political history of Catalonia during the final years of the 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries, a period that encompassed both Modernisme and Noucentisme. He was born in Mataró in 1867.
Between 1892 to 1896, Puig i Cadafalch was the municipal architect of Mataró. During his term, he worked on projects including the city’s sewer system and Casa Francesc Martí i Puig, which would eventually house Els Quatre Gats––a popular meeting place for Spanish Modernisme artists.

A complex, many-sided man, Josep Puig i Cadafalch (1867-1956) was also a remarkably cultured man – an architect, town-planner, archaeologist and restorer of Romanesque art – and, secondly, a politician. Even so, his work in this field has made him an enormously uncomfortable figure.

Puig i Cadafalch was a politician who became president of the Mancomunitat de Catalunya (the Commonwealth of Catalonia which covered the four Catalan provincial administrations) from 1917 to 1925.
