Mar 2, 2024 · JSC NMZ (a.k.a. Nizhny Novgorod Machine-Building Plant) is a Russian military-industrial state enterprise that develops artillery systems and missile systems, including the S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems, deployed by the Russian Armed Forces.
It was originally called the Nizhny Novgorod Machine Factory. In 1851, the factory began the construction of solid metal steamers. Three years later, it developed the production of screw schooners. In 1858, the Nizhny Novgorod Machine Factory produced the first Russian steam dredger.
Nizhny Novgorod Machine Building Plant (NMP) was founded in 1932 as a site for mass production of artillery systems. The first products were 76-mm guns DRP-4. They were released even in unfinished, poorly equipped shops, but the task of Nizhny Novgorod coped.
One of the largest factories, originally called the Nizhny Novgorod Machine Factory (now referred to as Sormovo) began its construction of metal steamers in 1851, and continued to be a powerhouse of war and domestic production.
