Eric J. Rignot is the Donald Bren, Distinguished and Chancellor Professor of Earth system science at the University of California, Irvine, and a Senior Research Scientist for the Radar Science and Engineering Section at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Professor Rignot is a world-renowned glaciologist who studies the effects of global climate change on polar ice sheets. He uses satellites, airborne sensors, field data and numerical models to understand the dynamics of glacier ice along the coasts of the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets as well as in Alaska and Patagonia.
Dr. Eric J Rignot is a professor and researcher at UC Irvine and JPL, specializing in ice-ocean interaction, ice sheet modeling and data assimilation. He has received many awards and honors, including the Nobel Peace Prize for co-authoring the IPCC AR4 report, and has published numerous papers on glaciers and ice sheets.

His team recently won a $2.8 million grant from NASA to conduct a thorough survey of the condition of the southern continent’s ice sheet, using advanced satellite radar and other tools.
