Herty Field, also known as Alumni Athletic Field, was the original on-campus playing venue for football and baseball at the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, Georgia. It opened in the Fall of 1891 and hosting the first UGA home football game against Mercer University on January 30, 1892.

After receiving his doctorate from Johns Hopkins University, Charles Holmes Herty returned to his alma mater of the University of Georgia (UGA) as a chemistry professor in 1890.

On January 30, 1892 Georgia defeated Mercer College 50 to 0 on the stubbly grounds that served as an athletic field.
Chemistry professor Dr. Charles Holmes Herty starts a football team at the University of Georgia, the first such team in the Deep South. The team plays a two game season, defeating Mercer 50-0 in Athens on January 30, 1892 and losing 10-0 to Auburn in Atlanta nearly a month later on February 20.
