Hosts are the characters that you are able to play as in HOURS. They can each be obtained by clearing their unlock conditions. There are currently fifteen hosts in the game, with six hosts obtained through special methods.

Tempos are unique, unlockable abilities, all which control different aspects of time; that you can get by playing through HOURS. Currently, there are a total of 32 Tempos, 14 of which require the Hands of Time gamepass to be unlocked and used.
Bosses are powerful foes that appear in each stage after Sinking Sands. After you've defeated five enemies (or upon reaching phase three for Resident Mind), there will be a long pause before the boss will spawn. Defeating a boss allows you to move onto the next stage.
Subject is a mainly ranged host that is known for creating potions with key combos, creating a unique play experience from other hosts. Upon reaching Light Beneath Closed Eyes with Subject, the game will show its true name, Riddle Major.
