Pembina County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. At the 2020 census its population was 6,844. [1] . The county seat is Cavalier. [2] History[edit] Frontier doctor Dr. Charles Boarman Harris, one of the original pioneers to settle in Pembina, was the first county physician.
After a period of bison-grazing and development of the Indian cultures in the area, Governor Andrew J. Faulk appointed a commission to organize Pembina County, the first county in what was to become the state of North Dakota in 1867.
