May 1, 2023 · Nottingham Castle. Once spoken of in the same terms as the Tower of London and Windsor Castle, Nottingham Castle looks over the city from its high sandstone crag known as Castle Rock. As with many strongholds in England the castle was torn down in the wake of the English Civil War to prevent it being re-used.
