"Petty" has its usual meaning in this context of "of a narrow-minded, mean, or small-natured disposition or character" ( petty - WordReference.com Dictionary of English ). It could mean stingy (although I usually encounter it in Britain as being narrow-minded and/or preoccupied with unimportant things), but not greedy.

The sample here cleaned it up a bit. It has no meaning whatsoever on its own. "Don't sweat," of course is an idiom meaning "don't worry about." "Don't pet," has no idiomatic meaning.

The general rule, or pattern, is that with more than one syllable, we use more and most. And with one syllable we use er and est endings.

The first part is another way of saying "Don't sweat the small stuff" (a rather well-known quote from the book DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF...and it's all small stuff). It means don't worry about and don't get all worked up about unimportant things.
