Mar 14, 2024 · As you plan your Montmartre itinerary, be sure to add pretty streets like Rue Norvins which offers stunning views of Sacre Coeur, Rue De L’Abreuvoir, Rue Lepic, Rue Saint-Vincent, a charming and calm street, Rue Saint-Rustique which is believed to be the oldest road in Montmartre, and so many others.
Montmartre is primarily known for its artistic history, for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur on its summit, and as a nightclub district. The other church on the hill, Saint Pierre de Montmartre, built in 1147, was the church of the prestigious Montmartre Abbey.
The main streets of Montmartre could be said to be rue des Martyrs, rue Lamarck, rue Caulaincourt and rue des Abbesses. But the most picturesque are those that surround the Plaza de Tertre and the Sacre Coeur .
Montmartre Hotels. At the intersection with Rue des Abbesses, turn left and walk down the street. This is a great and historic street that stays open late, is surrounded by good bars and hotels, a metro station, a good newsstand, good restaurants, bread stores and wine shops.
Rue des Martyrs is one of my favorite streets in Paris. It is a food street filled with boulangeries, coffee, and artisan shops. Enjoy a morning or afternoon here, strolling down and stopping in different places to eat and browse. In recent years, the shops have turned a bit more commercial.
