Guido van Rossum (Dutch: [ˈɣido vɑn ˈrɔsʏm,-səm]; born 31 January 1956) is a Dutch programmer. He is the creator of the Python programming language , for which he was the " benevolent dictator for life " (BDFL) until he stepped down from the position on 12 July 2018.

Guido van Rossum is the creator of the Python programming language. He grew up in the Netherlands and studied at the University of Amsterdam, where he graduated with a Master's Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Python was created by Guido van Rossum, and first released on February 20, 1991. While you may know the python as a large snake, the name of the Python programming language comes from an old BBC television comedy sketch series called Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
