Pollak was raised in San Jose, CA, where by the age of 10, he was laying his career foundation by lip-synching to the routines of Bill Cosby. He began touring at 20, and after winning second place in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 1982, moved to Los Angeles to further pursue a show business career.
