Home > About UM > UM Fact Sheet. Universiti Malaya has its roots in Singapore with the establishment of King Edward VII College of Medicine in 1905. In 1949 Universiti Malaya was formed with the amalgamation of King Edward VII College of Medicine and Raffles College in Singapore. Universiti Malaya Kuala Lumpur was established in 1962.
To aid in the teaching and learning of our students, University Malaya has a large teaching hospital, University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). This teaching hospital has more than 1000 beds and more than 1 million patients annually, giving our students ample opportunities to practise the art of Medicine in a safe and supervised environment.
