Be aware that the update in the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home.

Feb 20, 2024 · I discovered that OUTLOOK.EXE is found in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE". I can run Outlook from double-clicking on OUTLOOK.EXE. However, if I search and run Outlook, it run the new Outlook (web version). I cannot set Outlook desktop version to default any longer.
