It covers the bulk of the Arabian Peninsula and has a land area of about 2 150 000 km 2 ( 830 000 sq mi), making it the fifth-largest country in Asia and the largest in the Middle East.
Ibn Saud was the son of Abdul Rahman bin Faisal, Emir of Nejd, and Sara bint Ahmed Al Sudairi. The family were exiled from their residence in the city of Riyadh in 1890. Ibn Saud reconquered Riyadh in 1902, starting three decades of conquests that made him the ruler of nearly all of central and north Arabia.
Shortly after his ascension to the throne, King Saud appointed his brother (then) Crown Prince Faisal as Prime Minister. Faisal was the architect of reform, development, and modernization of Saudi Arabia in its new form after the death of its founder, King Abdulaziz. In 1962, Faisal presented to King Saud his plan known as the Ten Points of Reform.
Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was a Saudi Arabian statesman and diplomat who was the King of Saudi Arabia from 2 November 1964 until his assassination in 1975. Faisal was the third son of King Abdulaziz. His mother, Tarfa bint Abdullah, was a member of the Al ash-Sheikh family which has produced many prominent Saudi religious leaders.
