Oct 2, 2024 · Filmways Pictures was a film studio that was a division of Filmways Television, founded in 1980 from the acquisition of American International Pictures in 1979 and folded into Orion Pictures in 1982. Prior to their acquisition of AIP, Filmways had been producing films since 1967, and also owned film distributor Sigma III Corporation .
Orion's interest in Filmways stemmed from the company's library of 500 films as well as its distribution operation. Once in power, the new management of Filmways moved to divest the company of its holdings outside the entertainment industry.
