Carmen’s mother brings Spanish sunshine into the Giger residence, where she works in the office two or three times a week, attending to secretarial and accounting duties. Hansruedi appreciated her wonderfully warm Spanish temperament, and especially enjoyed her cooking.
Carmen is reminiscent of the beautiful, aesthetic female figures found throughout much of Giger’s work. Hansruedi and Carmen shared not only a deep love, but also many interests such as Egyptology, mysticism, alchemy, music and art. Carmen lives for the most part in House 1 of the three connected Giger houses (1, 3 and 5).

Giger lived and worked in Zürich with his second wife, Carmen Maria Scheifele Giger, who is the director of the H.R. Giger Museum. On 12 May 2014, Giger died in a Zürich hospital after suffering injuries from a fall.
